Cisco has announced a new security offering to combat identity threats, which the company says are increasing in frequency as a result of AI.
The company’s 2025 Cybersecurity Readiness Index found that almost a third of companies rank identity as their top cybersecurity challenge.
“The security industry is facing an ‘identity crisis’ as persistent identity-based attacks are among the most dangerous and costly challenges for security teams. Attackers don’t need to hack in, when they can simply log in,” said Jeetu Patel, president and chief product officer at Cisco. “While identity is the foundation of strong security, traditional IAM solutions have failed to prioritize security despite increasingly sophisticated threats.”
According to Cisco, traditional IAM solutions utilize multifactor authentication (MFA) to protect logins, but attackers have found ways to bypass this. Duo IAM adds new ways to protect identities, such as proximity verification, elimination of passwords, and help desk verification to protect against social engineering attacks.
Key features include a User Directory for storing user identities and managing their access to resources, and Identity Routing Engine to allow it to integrate with other identity providers, and support for MFA and Single Sign On (SSO).
Duo IAM also has access to the Cisco AI Assistant to help organizations set up and manage the platform. It integrates with Cisco Identity Intelligence as well, allowing it access data across the entire Cisco Security Cloud and gain better visibility and insights into the entire identity ecosystem.
“By integrating seamlessly with the broader Cisco Security ecosystem, Duo ensures organizations can protect their users, data, and systems with the most advanced tools available,” the company wrote in a blog post.
