IBM has announced the latest generation of its Power servers, featuring innovations that make them more resilient, efficient, and AI-ready.
The Power11 family will include high-end, mid-range, and entry servers, and will also include a virtualized option in IBM Power Virtual Server in IBM Cloud. Both the physical and virtual servers will be available on July 25, marking the first time both options have been made generally available at the same time.
Power11 features the most resilient servers in the Power family, offering 99.9999% uptime, zero planned downtime for system maintenance, and ransomware detection guaranteed under one minute via IBM Power Cyber Vault.
The servers will be the first in the Power line to include the IBM Spyre Accelerator (available in Q4 2025), a system-on-a-chip designed for intensive AI inference workloads.
This generation also includes 55% better core performance than the Power9, 45% more capacity with higher core counts in entry and mid-range systems compared to Power10, and double the performance per watt compared to similar x86 servers.
Power11 also introduces the concept of Resource Groups, maximizing system utilization and increasing workload performance. These servers also feature a new Energy Efficient Mode that can lead to 28% better efficiency compared to the Maximum Performance Mode.
“IBM Power11 changes the game for enterprise computing,” said Tom McPherson, GM of Power Systems at IBM. “With Power11, clients can accelerate into the AI era with innovations tailored to their most pressing business needs. We are taking advantage of the full IBM stack to deliver hybrid cloud, AI, and automation capabilities while building on our decades-long reputation as a trustworthy hybrid infrastructure for essential workloads.”
